Step by Step writing Rescue

About the Program

Step by Step WRITING RESCUE is based on the pedagogy of integrated teaching, learning and assessing.

Step by Step WRITING RESCUE has been structured around the use of the NSW English K-6 syllabus, however, the skills contained in the Scope and Sequence reflect syllabus standards articulated for most States and Territories in Australia and align with the expectations of the National Writing Benchmarks.

Step by Step WRITING RESCUE is divided into four sections or ‘Steps’. Each ‘Step’, comprising a number of units, systematically addresses a range of grammar skills.

  • Grammar skills are systematically introduced using the focus picture books as the context for learning. These skills are revised across a series of units, thereby ensuring that the learning is consolidated.

  • Students learn about each skill/concept through discussion and explicit teacher modelling, leading to deep knowledge and understanding of the skills of writing.

  • Students then have the opportunity to demonstrate their mastery by completing writing tasks reflecting the explicit intention of the learning sequence.

  • Assessment processes have been incorporated to assist teachers with the on-going collection of student data.

Unit Sequence

Each unit provides a teaching sequence sufficient for between 3-5 weeks. It is intended that the content is delivered to the whole class, with appropriate support provided to students requiring additional assistance.
